Children through history
About this curriculum
This curriculum is a living book list intended to be used with Charlotte Mason's methods, however the books and extension activities included can easily be adapted to a range of differen educational methods. This is NOT a unit study but instead a history topic. You can add in other subjects if you wish to turn this into a full unit study.
This is a history curriculum intended for young children (ages 3-8), it is based around beautiful picture books featuring children living at different times in history. The intention of this curriculum is to give children a brief overview on how the life of children has changed over time as well as to introduce them to key chronological time periods.

HOW to use this curriculumOn this page you can view the books selected for this curriculum: 12 picture books and a selection of extra books. Each book has a downloadable page showing activity suggestions, bingo board and lesson lay inspiration. There is also a list of matching resource links. You can download just the pages matching the books you wish to study, or the complete set of downloads to the right.
This curriculum does not come with detailed schedules, instead it includes fun 'bingo style' activity suggestions. View the books and activities included more as a menu from which to pick and choose the combination of things that appeal to you the most to make this curriculum your own. At the end of the books you can find some other free resources to help you plan out the curriculum yourself. Because there are 12 books (13 but two are intended to be studied at the same time). This curriculum lends itself ideally to be studied either 1 book a week over a 12 week term, or 1 book a month over a year. |

Spine Books
These books can be used throughout the curriculum to add to or enhance your learning, but are certainly not essential additions.
A Child Through Time, is a great visual book, it includes illustrations of children living in many different time periods as well as their homes, toys and the places they live. I wouldn't recommend reading this as a read aloud, but using alongside the books below or for children to explore on their own, dipping in and out of it as neccissary.
